Governors and vice-governors elected in four Cuban provinces – Juventud Rebelde

The Council of State, through Agreements dated April 5 and 24, 2024, ordered that on May 4 at 9:00 a.m. the election of the provincial Governor and Vice-Governor of the provinces of Matanzas, Cienfuegos would be held throughout the national territory. , Villa Clara and Santiago de Cuba, according to an official note.

In compliance with the approved program, the President of the Republic delivered to the National Electoral Council the proposals for candidates for the positions of provincial Governor and Vice-Governor. The biographies were reproduced and delivered to the delegates to the municipal assemblies of the People’s Power no less than 72 hours prior to the election date, as provided by the Electoral Law. The ballots and election certificate were reproduced on the scheduled dates, all of which was sent in sufficient time to the Provincial Electoral Councils.

Among the actions carried out, special attention was paid to the training of the electoral authorities who participated in the process and the deputies who, together with the presidents of the municipal electoral councils, directed the voting events. The ballot was designed and printed by the National Electoral Council.

As planned, the voting events were held throughout the country, with the attendance of more than half of the delegates that make up each assembly.

All candidates were elected with more than half of the valid votes cast, which was reported, as established by law, to the National Electoral Council by the provincial electoral councils once the calculation of the results of each municipality in the territory had been validated. In addition, it was informed to the municipal electoral councils, for the purposes of informing the delegates to the municipal assemblies of the Popular Power that exercised the vote.

The National Electoral Council, in compliance with its mission, organized, directed and supervised the development of this process, for which it approved the Schedule, Information Calendar and other documents that govern it. (Complementary Rules, Booklets and brochures)

Pursuant to the provisions of article 250 of the Electoral Law, the National Electoral Council informed the President of the Republic and the President of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the delegates to the Municipal Assemblies of People’s Power of the results, after which, the population is informed in this act.

FINAL RESULTS

The total number of constituencies in the country is 12,429, of which 3,433 from 4 provinces participate.

There are 25 vacant places for delegates in these constituencies, so the planned attendance of delegates is 3,408, based on which, the following results are offered.

Of the total number of delegates to attend (3,408), 3,353 attended, representing 98.39%.

Of the 3,353 delegates who attended;

3,353 people deposited their ballot in the ballot box for 100%.

34 blank ballots are reported (1.01%).

1 ballots were annulled, for 0.03%.

3,318 ballots were valid for 98.96%. Of the total valid ballots, 3,016 were voted by all, representing 90.90%, and 302 were voted selectively, representing 9.10%.

In the coming days, the Council of State will set the date for the inauguration of the provincial governors and vice-governors before the Provincial Electoral Council of People’s Power.
