The Aysén Productive Development Committee -CDPAysén- has marked a milestone in economic decentralization by approving an investment of 1,930 million pesos. These funds will be directed towards the Productive Development and Entrepreneurship and Innovation subcommittees, with the aim of promoting local economic development, facing regional challenges.

Andrea Macías Palma, Regional Governor and President of CDPAysén, explained that the objective of the second session was to advance in the allocation of the budget managed by this committee. «Today we approve the distribution of more than one thousand nine hundred million pesos in different instruments that will begin to be issued for application through Corfo. The Committee also defined the guidelines and strategic axes for these investments, directing these funds towards those instruments of greatest relevance for the different productive sectors of our region.

He explained that the committee has two subcommittees: one on Entrepreneurship and Innovation and another on Productive Development, each with its respective members. The role of these subcommittees is to review the different instruments in detail, propose actions, indicators, and make observations and suggestions to the instruments that are subsequently put out to tender.

Humberto Marín Leiva, director of Corfo, explained that the installation of the CDPAysén is a decentralization effort by the government of President Gabriel Boric in which powers are given to the regions and regional actors led by the governors, for decision-making regarding the budget on entrepreneurship, promotion and innovation. «In this session, the budget framework for the year 2024 in Corfo and Sercotec was discussed. The Committee, made up of public, private and academic actors, under the presidency of the Regional Governor of Aysén, defined the areas of work for both entities, aligned with the Regional Development Strategy and the instruments that guide the progress of the region. The proposed programs, focused on innovation and productive development, seek to improve the productivity and competitiveness of both companies and entrepreneurs in Aysén. These programs cover the strengthening of human capital, support for entrepreneurship and the collection of information for decision-making. Likewise, it seeks to strengthen the business and cultural ecosystem of the region, contemplating direct financing for productive units and spaces that facilitate decision-making,” he said.

REGIONAL STRATEGIC ADVANCE

The definition of the strategic guidelines for the distribution of resources and the election of the presidency and vice-presidency of one of the subcommittees marked the development of the second session. This significant step for the functioning of the Committee allows us to focus on the promotion of innovation, the strengthening of human capital and the increase of competitiveness in Aysén. Along with supporting innovation and productive development projects, resources will be allocated for studies that support decision-making and strengthen the local business ecosystem.

Finally, although the election of the presidency and vice-presidency of the Productive Development subcommittee was pending, it is expected that this allocation of funds will boost sustainable economic growth in the region and contribute to its long-term development.
