In addition, the project proposes complementing the measure with healthy eating workshops, however, “The specific objective is that school environments include and promote healthy eating in children“.

Deliberative Council of Neuquén

The project was presented in the Deliberative Council by MPN councilors.

“Today the offer is very wide. However, The idea is to start by expanding it with all the products that the food guides indicate regarding what we should promote so that children consume, such as fruits and cereals, At the same time, we will try to avoid some products that have critical levels of sugar,” said Fernández.

Furthermore, he reported: “Another important aspect that we incorporate in this legislation is to guarantee the offer of products for specific health issues, such as celiac disease or lactose intolerance, as well as another important issue, because when we address this issue we go with part of promoting and raising awareness, but also We are incorporating the modification of the contravention code for those kiosks that do not adapt and that do not comply with this obligation“.

We will also work with those responsible for the districts with periodic training, so that they are the ones who can attend all the schools with the defined list, including those foods that must be at a visually attractive level for the children.

Since 2016, Neuquén schools have begun to provide healthy foods along with candy.

Allowed and prohibited foods

Those in charge of the kiosks must encourage the consumption of healthy foods through the display of messages, posters and brochures around the food outlet.

It is intended that there be: packaged mineral water, puffed rice, cereal bars, sponge cake, bay biscuit, fresh fruits, fruit salad, dried fruits, dehydrated fruits, cookies, packaged breadsticks, sweet cookies, cereal mix, dried fruit mix or dehydrated fruits, gelatin alone or with fruits, seeds or a mix of seeds, whole wheat or white bread sandwiches, homemade or packaged toast, tutucas, corn flakes, puffed wheat, milk, yogurts and milk desserts, natural juices, smoothies or smoothies, foods similar to those proposed suitable for celiacs.

The proposal establishes that these kiosks must have a percentage of healthy products, but it does not mean that the sweets will be removed. “The important thing is to go little by little, but improving the quality of the children’s nutrition,” he explained.
