The Attorney General’s Office accepted the invitation made by the president, Gustavo Petro, to participate in a technical table against corruption, after uncovering the scandal over the alleged delivery of millionaire bribes to the presidents of the Senate, Iván Name, and the Chamber, Andrés Calle, to support the Government’s reforms. The money would have been delivered through the then advisor for the regions, Sandra Ortiz.

In this case, it was Sneyder Pinilla, former deputy director of the National Risk Management Unit, which revealed that, from the contracts for the purchase of tank trucks, with which water would be distributed in La Guajira, several millions were taken to bribe the presidents of Congress to support the reforms of the National government.

These statements caused a political dustup and led to the opening of preliminary investigations by the country’s control and investigation bodies.as well as the creation of anti-corruption month by the executive.

According to the Government, the table would be in charge of “articulate actions aimed at documenting cases of improper use of public resources” and would be made up of officials from the Transparency Secretariat, the National Judicial Defense Agency and a group of external auditors.

“He considers it very useful to designate the National Legal Defense Agency of the State to provide all the collaboration required by the Attorney General’s Office, in order to strengthen the determined fight against corruption and the defense of public resources,” stated the Prosecutor’s Office.

The entity, however, made it clear that it will participate in the table as long as “It does not compromise the independence and autonomy of the Prosecutor’s Office nor does it modify its investigative functions.”

It should be remembered that the head of the investigative entity, Luz Adriana Camargo, She is very close to the minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez. Between 2013 and 2019, Camargo participated as head of Investigation and Litigation in the International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG) in which the Minister of Defense also became famous.

While in that position, he played a fundamental role in high-profile investigations related to corruption and “parapolitics” in Guatemala, an experience that would be very valuable in Colombia, considering that there have been similar problems.

As a result of these disputes, The current attorney general managed to dismantle numerous corruption structures and convict more than 50 congressmen.making her an influential figure in the fight against corruption in the region.

This experience, it is estimated, will be key in the current research processes by alleged corruption in the Government of Gustavo Petro.
