They confirm that the Tourist Services Tax is close to being implemented – Salta

On December 28, 2023, the Deliberative Council of the city of Salta approved the implementation of a new rate of services and infrastructure aimed at tourists within the municipal tax code.

Fernando Garcia Soria coordinator of the Tourism Entity in dialogue with Hours of Voices (FM Ya 91.3) confirmed that they are finalizing details so that the new rate begins to be implemented as soon as possible.

The implementation of this new concept will allow tourists to be charged for accommodations established by categories, which supports and contributes to continuing to finance the tourism sector in the province.

“It’s really going to be something surpassing, there are more than 160 cities in the world that charge a tourist tax, for example the City of Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Iguazú, which has allowed, in this time of crisis, with that rate, to be able to continue many promotional actions” he expressed.

He also highlighted that it is important for the province to generate its own rate to face the crisis that we are currently going through. He also highlighted that this will allow the province’s tourism sector to generate its own tools and administration for the growth of Salta’s tourism.

“We believe that the city is in a position to take that step, to work in much stronger coordination with the private sector, to form institutions or mixed figures that project this growing group looking to the future and long term,” he said.

Regarding how the implementation will be, Soria explained that tourists will be charged for accommodation taking into account their categories. At the same time, it is tied to the tax units to have a standard value and so that the values are not outdated and are in line with inflation.

“A five-star hotel would pay five tax units per person, the lower categories are expected to pay one tax unit,” he concluded.

Tourism Growth in Salta

During the month of January, the province has not had stable growth, although during Easter, there was a strong arrival of tourists that had an impact on the city’s tourism sector.
