(Monday, May 6, 2024). A scene of confrontation between the National Army and FARC dissidents has been captured on video, showing the exact moment in which a military helicopter was attacked by gunfire while flying over the rural area of the municipality of Argelia, Cauca.
The incident took place on May 2, when the aircraft was heading towards the Micay Canyon to provide support to the troops who were facing intense combat with members of the Carlos Patiño structure, a dissident faction of the FARC.
In the images, recorded from the helicopter cabin, the voice of the crew members can be heard warning about the attack: “They are on the edge, from the top they are shooting, batteries, batteries.” The shots came from different points in the township, with the clear intention of hindering the authorities’ mission.
The video also captured communication between the helicopter crews, evidencing the collaboration between teams on the ground and in the air to confront the onslaught. Despite the imminent danger, the crew’s expertise allowed a successful landing, according to reports from the Military Forces.

“Thanks to the expertise of this crew, the entry of ammunition was achieved, which was essential for the troops on the ground to be strengthened,” says a statement issued this Monday, May 6, by the Military Forces.
