A school bus suffered a traffic accident on Monday, May 6 between the towns of El Vallito and Cuatro Vientos, Cesar. The accident left 17 children and the bus driver injured; All children are part of the Octavio Mendoza Durán Educational Institution. According to authorities, the bus had a mechanical failure in the steering, which would have caused it to overturn.

According to Luis Alberto Pumarejo, Secretary of the Government of El Paso, The bus was traveling on an unpaved road when the vehicle went through a hole, this caused a failure in the direction of the school bus and caused the accident. Pumarejo reported that paving work is already being carried out on that road as part of the Departmental Road Plan.

The driver managed to maneuver what he could and a tragedy was avoided. The children were immediately transferred to the Hernando Quintero Blanco Hospital, where, upon being evaluated, 12 of them, along with the driver, presented minor injuries.”Pumarejo told El Espectador.
