President of Cuba arrived in Russia on a working visit

The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canelarrived today on a working visit to Russia to participate for the first time in person in an expanded meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, Prensa Latina reported.

Díaz-Canel heads the Cuban delegation to the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, where the Caribbean nation has had observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) since 2020.

During his stay in the Russian capital, the president will be received by his counterpart, Vladimir Putin, with whom he will analyze the ties between the two countries in all areas, including politics, diplomacy and economic cooperation.

The president of Cuba will also attend the Parade for the 79th anniversary of Victory Day against fascism in Moscow’s Red Square, along with the leaders of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Laos and Guinea Bissau.

Díaz-Canel’s previous visit was made in November 2022, when, together with Putin, he inaugurated the monument to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in the Plaza Sokol in the Russian capital.

During that four-day visit to Moscow, he held high-level meetings with Putin; with the patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church, Kirill, with the vice president of the Security Council, Dmitri Medvedev; the president of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko; and the president of the Duma, Viacheslav Volodin.
