On Tuesday (05/07/2024), with the arrival of 287 new police assistants to Santiago de Cali, a total of 700 uniformed personnel are completed to support prevention and citizen security work in the capital of Valle del Cauca.

These are young people between 18 and 24 years of age, men and women, the vast majority coming from Cali, but also from surrounding municipalities and departments such as Cauca and Nariño.

During the presentation of the auxiliaries, the mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder, assured that the objective of the District Administration is to recover the dignity of the city. “To this end, we must have order and security, for only this will lead to reconciliation and peace. We have been working with the Police and other members of the Public Force to recover territorial control; I have accompanied the patrols and the changes are seen and felt,” said the president.

He confessed that being mayor in this ceremony is perhaps one of the most important moments he has experienced during his time in office. “I want to thank all these young police assistants for making the decision to serve the country and Cali. It is a brave job and here they have a mayor who loves the Police and who is going to give them the tools and support to carry out their work,” said the mayor and announced that they are working on a scholarship program for those in uniform.

During the swearing-in ceremony for the new auxiliaries, which took place in the square of the Municipal Administrative Center (CAM), the commander of the Cali Metropolitan Police, Colonel Carlos Oviedo, assured that the uniformed personnel will be of vital importance to guarantee security in the events that the city will have, such as the COP16which will have more than 12 thousand visitors.

The new uniformed officers have already gone through a 60-day training process, training in the police service oriented towards citizen attention, Human Rights, first responder in health, gender equality, ethics and transparency, among other topics.

The Secretary of Security and District Justice, Jairo García Guerrero, recalled that to recover the security and tranquility of Cali it is very important to have more and more personnel from the Public Force. “That is why at the beginning of this year 300 police officers arrived in the city and now, with this group of auxiliaries, we continue to expand the presence with a focus on talking more with the citizen, seeking to have a faster and closer response,” explained the official. .

García Guerrero specified that there are 287 uniformed personnel who will strengthen crime prevention tasks in Cali, as they will be located on bridges and tourist places and will support attention in times of large crowds.
