He Central Bank of the Argentine Republic (BCRA)officially launched the new 10,000 peso bill, which will gradually begin to circulate starting this Tuesday through the extensive network of bank branches and ATMs throughout the national territory. This bill, which honors prominent figures such as Manuel Belgrano and Maria Remedios del Valle on the obverse, and with an artistic representation of the historic Flag Pledge on the reverse, joins the 20,000 peso bill with the image of Juan Bautista Alberdi, which will be released in the last quarter of the year. Both are part of the “Heroines and Heroes of the Homeland” family, presented in May 2022.

The main objective of these new banknotes is to facilitate commercial transactions, improve the logistical efficiency of the financial system and reduce the costs associated with the production and distribution of banknotes.

Security measures of the new 10 thousand pesos bill

Regarding security measures, the 10,000 peso bill has a series of distinctive characteristics that make it easily identifiable and safe both for the general public and for detection by machines. Among these features are:

  • Watermark: When observing the bill against the light, you can distinguish the portraits of María Remedios del Valle and Manuel Belgrano, as well as the initials of their names in light tone in the white area.
  • Windowed security thread: A red security thread is embedded in the bill and is displayed in three “windows.” This thread presents a dynamic effect when moving the bill and when observed against the light, it is perceived as a continuous band with the acronym BCRA.
  • Optical variability ink: A motif that changes color from gold to green when the bill is tilted, with a dynamic three-dimensional effect. In addition, a latent image is included, the letters “RA”, visible in grazing light, and a complementary front-back motif that shows the value “10,000” when viewed against the light.
  • Tactile identification: The vertical edges of the bill have a relief that allows visually impaired people to identify it by touch.

These new banknotes maintain the standard size and are printed on cotton paper, retaining traditional security features such as the watermark and security thread. In addition, additional security elements have been incorporated through special printing systems.

In the digital age, there are mobile applications such as Cash Reader Bill Identifier and MCT Money Reader that allow the authenticity of banknotes to be verified by scanning them with the phone’s camera, offering an additional tool to ensure the legitimacy of banknotes in circulation.
