The run-up to Rosario Central’s match against Atlético Minerio for the Copa Libertadores was marked by a series of serious incidents, when local fans who called themselves to receive the team’s bus were repressed by the police.

The situation broke out in the northern part of the city, a few meters from the Gigante de Arroyito stadium, which was waiting empty for the arrival of the players.

Central’s match against Atlético Mineiro took place behind closed doors due to a sanction imposed by Conmebol after the disturbances that occurred during the match with Peñarol, which left both fans and players injured.

According to preliminary reports, the incidents began when the bus transporting the team crossed the area where a large group of fans were holding a flag. Although supporters approached the vehicle peacefully, blocking its path, police intervention was necessary to clear the area and allow the bus to continue its route.

This action provoked a violent reaction from the fans, who began to confront the police officers. Some present reported having been hit by blows and rubber bullets by the police, denouncing that the attack was not justified by the behavior of the fans, but was disproportionate.

However, a police officer offered a different version of events, stating that some fans began throwing stones at staff, triggering the riot.
