After the organ ablation carried out this weekend at the Enrique Vera Barros hospital, La Rioja ranked first nationally in terms of donation. On this topic, the head of Cucailar, Dr. Carlos Reinoso, spoke about the patients who are still on the waiting list.

According to the National Central Single Ablation and Implant Coordinating Institute (INCUCAI), La Rioja ranked first in donations per million inhabitants, followed by Neuquén, Tucumán, Formosa and the Federal Capital.

Dr. Carlos Reinoso in dialogue with El Independiente Media commented this Wednesday on the organ transplant days ago, “this positioned us and gives us strength to move forward, especially thinking about the people who are on the waiting list and who, in order to reduce said list, we are working for them.”

He indicated that there are currently “92 people registered on the waiting list, the majority are kidney, then liver and to a lesser extent cornea. And in the registration process, people who have started the procedures to get on the waiting list but who still need some studies, we still have 154 people. We appeal that there will undoubtedly be more, imagine, the number of patients who are undergoing dialysis, although not all of them are going to be candidates for transplant, but there are 325 people who are currently undergoing dialysis in La Rioja. The majority, at some point, can agree to be on the waiting list and have a transplant.”

For the gesture of donating, Reinoso said “first of all, the family’s willingness to accept the moment and to us who have to communicate about the transplant donation process. We are grateful, then the hospital that is prepared for any type of event of these characteristics and all the staff we have in Intensive Care. We have people prepared in diplomas, important training, there is nothing improvised.”

During the interview, the director of Cucailar maintained that society began to become aware of organ donation. “It is prepared, the health system is prepared. It is a joint effort between the health system and society to raise awareness and give importance to organ donation. When the function of an organ ceases, I wish there was a medication to reactivate its function, but the only thing here is the transplant. (Except for dialysis and other treatments).
