Various roads in the municipality of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, woke up flooded this Wednesday, May 8, after heavy rains. Citizen reports indicate that Portal del Jordán, Villa del Sur, Cantabria, Parques de Castillo are some of the affected neighborhoods.

The images circulating on social networks show that several streets in the Valle del Cauca municipality are flooded. Given this scenario, drivers are recommended to travel with caution to avoid traffic accidents.

According to some citizens, The downpour began on Tuesday night and lasted until Wednesday morning. “The rain in Jamundí has ​​been going on for more than 12 hours and in Portal de Jamundí the houses are about to flood, as happened at the beginning of this year. No municipal entity has intervened since then to mitigate this disaster,” claimed an X user identified as Victoria.

Jamundí is one of the municipalities that is on red alert due to the rainy season in the department. The other territories on maximum alert are Buenaventura, Dagua, Calima, Darién, San Pedro, Tuluá, Bugalagrande, Bolívar, El Cairo, Ansermanuevo, El Águila and Cali.

At the beginning of May, the Risk Management Secretariat of Valle del Cauca reported that the 12 mentioned municipalities are under constant surveillance to prevent emergencies. “With these rains that are occurring in the department, it is very likely that removal movements will occur in some of these municipalities,” explained Francisco Javier Tenorio, secretary of Risk Management of the Valley.

According to the official, The entity is working in coordination with all municipal disaster risk management coordinators and relief agencies. “We have been developing technical tables from the Risk Management Secretariat, in addition to technical tables in the municipalities in order to accompany and advise them on different topics that have to do with disaster risk management and making the pertinent recommendations,” Tenorio stressed. .
