Bayamo-. The selection of its two institutions as the best in Cuba in the last school year made the province of Granma worthy of hosting the IX National Meeting of Pedagogical Schools, which began today in this city.

High rates of promotion, school retention and class attendance of educators and students, placed us at the forefront in the country, declared Doctor of Science Yaquelín González Román, specialist of the territorial directorate of Education.

Exclusively for the Cuban News Agency, he explained that the Rubén Bravo center will host the important event where fourth-year students and graduates will come together; and the first meeting of students of pedagogical training in Technical and Professional Education will also take place.

Representatives of the 29 academies of this type created on the island will participate, he said, as well as the best graduates from different specialties.

The event, of a competitive nature, will allow competition in 11 modalities, including History, Mathematics, Spelling, Plastic Arts, Orality, Teaching Aids, Toys and Festival of classes; At the same time, individual prizes and recognitions will be granted to the three best provinces, among which Granma aspires to be located, he added.

The pedagogical schools have the social responsibility of comprehensively training, up to the high school level, the primary teachers that each Cuban territory needs, in correspondence with the demands of society for said professional profile.
