The Domingo F. Sarmiento School in the Capital city hosted the launch of the provincial Promotion, Prevention and Dental Assistance program “Sonrisas santiagueñas 2024” with the presence of students, teachers, parents and health, educational and Municipal authorities of the Capital.

The event was chaired by the Minister of Health, Nativity Nassiftogether with the mayor of the capital, Norma Fuentes; the Secretary of Health, Cesar Monti the Undersecretary of Education, Alejandro Piccoli; the Primary Level director, Gustavo Grimaldi; the Undersecretary of Community Development, Mauro Kalinski and the director of Dentistry, Patricia Gaddaamong other authorities.

The reference of the program, Patricia Gadda, highlighted the support of the Provincial Government to carry out the work not only in the Capital city, but also throughout the interior of Santiago del Estero “19 years ago we implemented the “Sonrisas Santiagueñas” Program with the fundamental objective of controlling the bacterial plaque, which causes cavities, and which is also related to oral cancer. If we manage to control bacterial plaque as children, we are taking care of their life and future health,” he stated.

One of the main achievements of the program is having managed to reduce bacterial plaque from 80 to 20 percent and has reduced the loss of dental elements in the population, reaching more than 120 thousand boys and girls.

During the event, the Minister Nassif He urged parents to take their children for check-ups and for boys and girls to take care of their oral health by brushing. In addition, he highlighted the management of Governor Gerardo Zamora in matters of health. “This program has been the product of a strategic vision of our governor, who in 2005 motivated the health authorities to attend to the oral health of the population by doing prevention, promotion and also assistance, orthodontics, prostheses and prevention of oral cancer. , among many activities carried out by this program.”

In this sense, the Secretary César Monti highlighted the value of a present State that invests in prevention and health care actions, especially oral health that directly impacts quality of life. “The Ministry of Health is fulfilling its fundamental function because it is a health policy that has been implemented thanks to this government management,” he stressed.

Lastly, Mayor Norma Fuentes He thanked the invitation and highlighted the work of the teachers and families who promote healthy habits in boys and girls while highlighting the work of the program in municipal kindergartens with important results in recent years.

Through the Department of Dentistry and the Santiagueña Smiles Program, dental services are provided in all health centers, from repairs, root canal treatments, x-rays, and extractions. In addition, through its subprograms, the program reported that 2,728 boys and girls up to 12 years old without social work are under the Orthodontics and Orthopedics Subprogram; 15,000 children annually with the School Subprogram and 8,000 children impacted with the School Health Subprogram, 231 glasses delivered, 2,592 people under treatment with the oral cancer early detection subprogram and 1,256 prostheses installed.

To finish the event, the boys and girls received a mouth brushing kit.
