Patricia Bullrich on the lowering of the age of imputability: “It is being discussed whether it is 14, 13 or 12”

The Minister of National Security Patricia Bullrich referred this Wednesday to the government’s intention to send a bill to Congress to lower the age of imputability and He said that it is being evaluated whether they will take her to 14, 13 or 12 years. “With those who commit minor crimes, we must try to prevent them from committing major crimes. But there must be a much greater penalty for those who commit crimes of blood”, he expressed.

“The age is still being discussed: if it is 14, 13 like in Uruguay or 12 like Brazil. We are discussing what the age is. It seems to us that there are two things: In very serious crimes there must be imputability; because if it is a murder, there must be imputability at the age at which the crime is committed, if the minor is really conscious. In cases of minor crimes, this helps young people not continue in their careers. Uruguay has thirteen and Brazil has twelve; “We are studying how this has impacted the population,” explained Bullrich in dialogue with Radio Miter.

The national official clarified that in Argentina an adult sentence cannot be applied to a minor due to international agreements that have constitutional status. “We are ordering it, it also depends on the crime. There are crimes of blood, where we want the maximum penalty; There are minor crimes, where one can try to make the minor reconsider, such as petty theft”he added.

“For those who commit minor crimes, try to prevent them from committing major crimes. And those who commit a strong crime, of blood, very violent, Those have to have a much harsher penalty.”, he remarked.

On the other hand, the minister spoke about the deportation of foreigners who commit crimes. “We are working with Migrations, Every day we are expelling people who belong to criminal organizations from the country and commit crimes. We work so that Argentina is not full of foreign criminals,” he concluded.
