On the eve of the celebration of Mother’s Day, the National Customs Service discovered two shipments with thousands of counterfeit products that arrived from ports in Asia destined for importing companies in Santiago to be sold illicitly.

These seizures were carried out by the teams of inspectors from the Valparaíso Regional Customs, carrying out their duties to protect borders, legal trade and people’s health.

In the first case, there were 1,479 boxes containing 70,992 units of counterfeit perfumes that imitated the Paco Rabanne and Calvin Klein brands, merchandise that had only been declared as generic perfumes.

While in a second procedure, 150 boxes with 6,000 pairs of illegal sneakers were discovered, which imitated the Adidas and Nike brands.

“These findings are quite relevant, because they confirm the work done by the Risk Analysis Unit to profile shipments that may contain some type of illegal activity. And in this case, in particular, it allowed us to confirm that there was indeed smuggling of counterfeit goods.”, detailed the Director of the Valparaíso Regional Customs, Braulio Cubillos.

Regarding the importance of these procedures for the security of the country and families, he explained that “Our work is to protect legal trade and also protect people’s health, preventing them from being exposed to contraband products that could be harmful when used. In this case we managed to seize thousands of perfumes and sneakers of dubious quality, but we have also found cosmetics, makeup, creams, accessories of all kinds and fake clothing. That is why the work we do as Customs in Valparaíso, San Antonio or Los Andes, and throughout Chile, is very relevant on dates like these, with an increase in illicit trade and risks.”

In 2023, Customs seized 4,243,273 units of counterfeit products. This concept includes clothing, footwear, toys and technology accessories, among others. In addition, through the Public Health Operational Plan, last year 3,191,129 units of products that could be harmful to people were seized, including 274,581 units of cosmetics.
