The fine line between threatening statements and turning to violence narrowed this Wednesday with a protest that turned into escrache, pushing and insults against deputy Nicolás Massot in the vicinity of Congress.

Shouting “son of a bitch”, a group of retirees and activists from the Polo Obrero began to intimidate the legislator from Hacemos Coalión Federal who was trying to enter the annex building of the Legislative Branch. Given the hot weather and the pushing, Massot needed the assistance of a police officer to enter the building.

The video was viralized by Prensa Obrera, a militant media outlet of the Polo Obrero, which held the vigil in the area where deputies and senators enter and leave. The episode occurs after a Kirchnerist union member, Edgardo Llano, from the APA aeronautical group, called for legislators to crash on Aerolíneas Argentinas flights, in rejection of the approval of the Bases Law. Also, one day after the general strike called by the CGT, in whose proclamation, Pablo Moyano had sent direct messages against the senators.

The Base Law will be discussed in the Senate. Massot, for his part, played a critical role in the treatment of the norm in Deputies, to the point that he promoted a key change in the section that advanced the Social Monotribute. But he didn’t seem to care about those who criticized him.

The violent action was repudiated by Miguel Ángel Pichetto, head of the bloc that makes up Massot, who demanded that “the perpetrators of the act must be identified and arrested.”
