Annual inflation in April fell to 7.16%, according to DANE

The National Administrative Department of Statistics (Dane), announced this Wednesday that last April annual inflation fell to 7.16%, following its downward trend when comparing it with 12.82% in 2023.

“The greatest variations occurred in the food and non-alcoholic beverages divisions (1.16%) and accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (0.93%),” Dane reported.

On the other hand, the divisions that had a negative variation were education (-0.07%), information and communication (-0.10%), and recreation and culture (-0.28%).

“In April 2024, the monthly variation of the CPI was 0.59%, compared to March 2024. The Food and non-alcoholic beverages division registered a monthly variation of 1.16%, this being the highest monthly variation. In April 2024, the largest price increases were recorded in the subclasses: tree tomato (22.87%), blackberries (11.07%) and potatoes (9.50%). The largest price decreases were reported in the subclasses: condiments and culinary herbs (-4.06%), corn and its derivatives (-2.45%) and carrots (-2.25%),” Dane explained.

Mobile telephone equipment, similar equipment and repair was the subclass that reported the lowest price increase in the information and communication division, since it registered a drop of -1.63%.

“In April 2024, the largest contributions to the monthly variation in the twelve divisions of the total CPI were recorded in the following subclasses: imputed rent with 0.13 percentage points, effective rent with 0.10 percentage points and fresh fruits with 0.07 percentage points. The subclasses with the lowest contributions were: gas with -0.04 percentage points, complete tourist packages with -0.01 percentage points and inter-municipal, inter-regional and international transportation with -0.01 percentage points,” Dane pointed out.
