Chaco, Santa Fe and Santiago del Estero will ask the Nation and legislators for the extension of the law that supports the cultivation – CHACODIAPORDIA.COM

The objective is to strengthen the Sustainable Development Plan and Promotion of Cotton Production, an aspect that is of utmost importance for the regional economies of these provinces and for the segment of small and medium cotton producers.

The document was signed by the ministers of Production and Sustainable Economic Development of Chaco, engineer Hernán Halavacs; of Productive Development of Santa Fe, Gustavo Puccini and of Production, Natural Resources, Forestry, Land and Environment of Santiago del Estero, Dr. Miguel Mandrile, as well as representatives of the Association of cotton producers and provincial officials.

In the signature they request the national legislative body to “carry out the necessary steps to extend the scope of Law 26,060, as well as the update of articles No. 8 and No. 11 of Law 26,060 creating the Sustainable Development and Promotion Plan of Cotton Production and its respective complementary articles of Law 26,933.”

The signatories emphasize that cotton production “is one of the most representative regional crops of our country, especially for northern Argentina, where it has not only great economic importance but also high cultural value, since it has encouraged population settlement in vast territories.”

In our country, the productive chain is developed completely, from cultivation to the production of final products, “which makes its importance magnified in terms of internal added value and, very especially, in the generation of labor. This means that there are numerous actors, represented by public, institutional and private organizations, who are actively involved in this production, with diverse scopes, experiences and commitments of various types.

They also maintain that the justification for this request is based on the great achievements of this law, which was to bring together inter-institutional work for the development of the crop. INTA generated a prototype of a harvester that was later exported to different countries. The Technological Linkage Agreement between INTA and the cotton provinces, where significant progress was achieved on weevil control. Agreements with INTI, where fiber qualities were analyzed in the provinces, as well as the APPA association, implementing HVI technology.

“This sample of work, in addition to a number of direct and indirect benefits with the enhancement of more than 50 gins for the primary chain, transportation and spinning mills, give importance to this regional economy,” the writing highlights.

Finally, it is emphasized that with the extension of the Cotton Fund the aim is to reach a cotton-planted area of 1,000,000 hectares, obtain a yield of 1,000 kilos of fiber per hectare, reach 1,000,000,000 dollars in exports, consolidate the network of HVI laboratories in the productive area, obtain a quality seal for Argentine cotton and thus achieve differentiated cottons.
