For the Ombudsman, Carlos Camargo, these types of situations also imply risk scenarios for children and adolescents (NNA) throughout the country.
That is why the official considers it essential to follow up on these cases and those who have been reported missing, to “bring them to immediate notice of the authorities and not wait 72 hours, which is erroneously assumed to be the time in which a report can be filed for the possible disappearance of a minor.”
Another situation that worries the Ombudsman is the increase that, according to the entity, has occurred in the use of images for the sexual exploitation of girls and boys and the use of social networks to recruit victims.
“According to figures from the Attorney General’s Office, in 2023, 65 victims of the crime of use or media facilitation to offer sexual activities with minors under 18 years of age,” details the Ombudsman’s Office.
“The Ministry of ICT and the Attorney General’s Office must carry out actions that mitigate the risks associated with commercial sexual exploitation of girls, boys and adolescents in virtual spaces,” notes Camargo.
