Igeano businessman Raúl Sanz dies

This morning, Igeano businessman Raúl Sanz Jiménez, resident in Cintruénigo (Navarra), died.

On Thursday of last week he went to the doctor for some discomfort and was admitted urgently to the Navarra University Clinic. He did not leave the Pamplona hospital where he died last night at the age of 74.

The funeral home has been arranged in his office in the warehouses of Finca Señorío de Rioja de Fitero. It opens today from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and tomorrow, Friday, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The funeral will take place in the parish of Igea this Friday at 6:00 p.m.

Born on September 26, 1949, after creating an empire in the furniture sector (doors for kitchen furniture), he also opted for real estate (in Spain and abroad) and fruit growing through Finca Señorío de Rioja, which stands out for its quality crops, aimed mainly at the national and international gourmet market. It was his dream and he dedicated his efforts to it since 2007.

One of his sons, Raúl, aged 13, died on an agricultural road in the crop plots in an accident in the summer of 2013. That same year he created the Raulito seal in his memory, as a symbol of organically selected fruits.

Raúl Sanz was a deputy in the parliament of La Rioja during the first legislature (1983-1987). He served as a member of the finance, economy and budget commission and also of the industry, commerce, tourism and public works commission. He ended his time as deputy on January 26, 1987.

Likewise, Sanz participated in the political activity of his town, Igea, in different candidacies as a councilor in the opposition.

Raúl Sanz dedicated himself to the furniture industry specializing in the manufacture of doors for kitchen furniture. He created the national Sanz Group with a first factory, Muebles Hersanz SL, in Igea, which he expanded with others in Cintruénigo (Gimsa Navarra de Complementos SL), Fitero (Artesanz Mobiliario SL and Madera Express Sanz SL), La Carolina, Jaén (Gimsanz Furniture accessories SL) and its great bet of 2008, Gimsa Mobel in Ólvega, Soria. The staff at his factories exceeded three hundred workers.

He also stood out in the real estate sector and in 2007, after leaving the furniture factories in the hands of his children, he began an adventure with some apple plantations in the Linares valley. What was initially a test became a firm commitment to fruit growing (apples, cherries, plums, pears…) with extensive and modern areas in the Cervera region (Igea, Cornago and Cervera), Valverde de Ágreda (Soria) and a distribution center in Fitero (Navarra).
