Water, energy and security offered by President Petro in Santa Marta

In his speech, the first Colombian president addressed the attendees to talk about three thematic and fundamental axes that most concern the inhabitants of this region, such as water, energy and security, although initially his speech began with the Agrarian Reform that proposes within his government plan for the department.

AGRARIAN REFORM

The president began by exalting the riches that the lands in Magdalena possess, but at the same time he assured that there is unequal ownership, which is why he invited the local, departmental and national governments, around the reform, as a peasant committee so that the National Agency of Lands, carry out a massive land program, where the large landowners of unproductive but fertile fields can be seduced into selling their lands and distributing them among the peasantry.

“Distributing land is distributing water, because they are fair, fertile land is land and water, when we talk about democratizing the land it is democratizing water, when we talk about delivering a food vocation to the land, it means that jobs will grow. in the rural world, production and wealth,” said the president.

Inevitably, when talking about the land, he spoke of the war that the fight for these has unleashed a wave of blood and fire at the hands of paramilitarism and the fusion with politics, ensuring that this is the time to sow peace, sowing the land with those who want to generate production.

ENERGY

On the issue of energy, which is one of the issues that most affects the population of Magdalen, Petro maintained that the order is the same that he has delivered in other cities such as Cartagena and Barranquilla and is to reduce rates and thus alleviate the pockets of citizens. of the Caribbean coast.

“Converting the tariff option debt that assumes through securitization a debt that the nation assumes, to remove from the households that the previous government burdened, is the task since yesterday, conversation with MinHacienda to guarantee that we move forward quickly and that “That they left a heavy burden on their pockets, does not become an injustice anymore,” said the Minister of Energy when proposing one of the Government’s solutions.

However, the president on this issue continued to insist on clean energy and the use of solar panels through the use of solar energy, to also reduce rates. Likewise, the Minister of Mines and Energy assured that a program for tents and commerce is already being carried out with the Chamber of Commerce and popular economy producers to give them access to solar panels.

SECURITY

Security was another of the issues addressed by the president who spoke concerned about the difficult situation of crime that besieges the city and the department due to territorial control, paramilitarism and drug trafficking that have caused blood to flow among young people who take the easiest routes. due to lack of opportunities.

“Greed in a single word that encompasses everything, has subjugated the population, now under modalities such as extortion, what if the Clan del Golfo what if ‘Los Pachencas’, when one goes to see young men and women killing each other everywhere, young people without perspective and possibilities, believing that the only way is to live or kill, knowing that by killing you cannot live” said Gustavo Petro.

The president very briefly addressed the dialogues proposed by the Sierra Nevada Self-Defense Forces, indicating that “in the Sierra they have proposed a peace process, which is difficult because they are not agents of politics and that has not existed for a long time, politics in arms, which “The only thing that exists are businesses in arms, covered in blood, but we have to find a solution.”

When talking about the concept of security in the city of Santa Marta, in general the ports said that they have become the obligatory passages for drug trafficking and decomposing local politics, but he assured his government that they will continue to fight hard against these mafias, taking away resources and goods with international cooperation to the famous invisible drug traffickers.

In his passing, General William Rene Salamanca spoke about the strategies proposed in the department of Magdalena where he highlighted the implementation so that the Banana Zone has a special district, strengthening the institutional presence, highlighting at the same time the reduction of homicides and other crimes . For Santa Marta he also assured that there are plans to improve safety rates.

“There is an intervention plan for Rodadero to make it a tourist potential as we knew it years ago, there is a weakness and I spoke about it with the mayor once he took office and it is that the city has 215 useless cameras because there is no way to help the police ” said the General.

In turn, Salamanca stated that “The first week of July we will have a Gaula for Santa Marta, to combat extortion, to confront this monster that is causing harm to the community.”

WATER

The most anticipated topic was that of water and with which the president closed, who spoke about the technical and financial complexity of starting a project that can provide the oldest city in Colombia with drinking water, although he assured that the will of his government to support and find solutions continues, inviting to make a pact with the communities, since it believes there is no method of political spectrums, sending a harsh message to the leaders of the region.

“We cannot remain evaluating, if not making decisions and acting is essential to not continue making mistakes, there is no method from the left and another from the right, there are only methods to have drinking water, perhaps we have to combine them, making an agreement with communities and thus have a solution where Santa Marta develops its potential,” said the president.

The president was sincere in saying that in one year they will not be able to find an absolute solution but they will be able to begin it irreversibly, just as they are already working together with the district, just as the minister did, who highlighted the government’s initiative, but at the same time showed concern for the need of the people, also adding that the city must stop using tank trucks, thinking about alternatives that are beginning to show solutions to problems such as wastewater.

“The Wastewater Pumping Station –EBAR- immediately needs solutions, I see the sewage, residual water that is being a serious problem and we must start working now, I welcome your mandate and we will begin to find solutions” said the Minister of Housing and Territory, Catalina Velasco.
