Marcos Calventethe mayor of Guaymallen, announced that he has developed the East Access reform project, for which he will ask Cornejo for 1% of the US$1,023 million that belonged to Portezuelo del Viento, since the work is valued at about US$12 million of dollars. To recover the investment he asks for, he proposed implementing a toll system.

The intention of the communal chief, as he said in an interview with “Séptimo Día” (Channel 7), is to make level crossings at that access, connecting Urquiza and Avellaneda-Azcuénaga streets from north to south. Ensures that those two crossings They would substantially improve the traffic congestion situation on Arenales Street and contribute substantially to the north-south connectivity of the department..

To support his request, he assured that this work is technically and economically viable, that It is a debt that has been dragging on for more than 30 years and that it would improve connectivity, since this access divides Guaymallén in two and marks a “road wound.”

Calvente explained that the opportunity to do this work is now because although it is now on a section of National Route 7, when the Palmyra variant that links the East with Luján, that section will be the jurisdiction of the province and therefore it will be the power of Provincial Highways to carry out works on that section.

“That is why it is not appropriate that with municipal funds a work that belongs to the province and that would benefit all of Mendoza has to be undertaken, although now this lack generates damage to the commune,” he explained.

And he joked: “If they give me those 12 million dollars, they will still have more than 1,000 million dollars left for other works.”

Recovery of the work with toll collection

Calvente is clear that to enable these funds, the governor Alfredo Cornejo will demand that you comply with a condition that you have been setting since you said that you will have the funds available. Portezuelo del Vientowhich means that this investment has a repayment, that is, that part of what was invested can be recovered.

In the case of the reform of the Eastern Access, the mayor suggested that this repayment be made with the collection of the toll.

“Understanding that the toll cannot be applied only on a section of a road, but has to be thought of as a system. It must be said that the toll does not depend only on this project, this project should not be punished, but rather it is a decision that must be made with a metropolitan scope, which seems pertinent to me,” he said.
