Fourth failed attempt to elect the new leadership of the Cruceña Parliamentary Brigade

The election of the new board of directors of the Cruceña Parliamentary Brigade was seen suspended for the fourth time, this Monday, May 20, due to the lack of quorum in the chamber. Only 16 of the 66 assembly members were present, which prevented reaching the minimum of 33 necessary to establish the session.

The appointment was scheduled for 9:00 in the morning, but the non-attendance of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) bench and some dissidents from Cree and Comunidad Ciudadana (CC) once again frustrated the process. This situation has been repeated since last March, when the election of the new board was called for the first time.

The Cruceña Parliamentary Brigade is made up of 8 senators (regulars and substitutes), 56 deputies (including substitutes) and 2 supranational representatives. However, the latter two do not have a vote in the election of the board.

Only 16 assembly members from Creo and CC attended

The internal divisions of the MAS and lack of consensus among the opposition groups are the main causes that have prevented the formation of the new board.

Deputy Richard Ribera (We believe)who still holds the presidency of the Cruceña Parliamentary Brigade, which corresponds to the third term of the legislature, denounced that the absence of the MAS is a strategy to leave the country without legislative power.

“It is the fourth call that we have for an ordinary session and to be able to elect the leadership of the Parliamentary Brigade in this legislature,” said Ribera.

“There is talk of a self-extension, but we have all the documentation that supports us that not only have we called, we have met with the three political forces to set a date and time for the election. Despite this, they do not come and the only intention What we have here is that practically, just as they ended the Judicial Branch and the Executive put it into their pockets, the Legislative Branch ends in the same way. What is experienced in the Chamber of Deputies is replicated in the Parliamentary Brigade. “There is an attempt to leave the country without legislative power,” he added.

Ribera assured that the real opposition is found among the parliamentarians who attended the session and that they claim the government of Luis Arce Catacora for its “excessive” actions that violate the regulations of Bolivians.

Why is the MAS not present?

According to Ribera, the Movement Towards Socialism has sent letters to the Parliamentary Brigade informing of their absence on the day of the session.

“On the day they tried to set up the session (they sent their letter), they previously did so with the excuse that there was no security, since we have always sent, including this fourth call, the intention to the Departmental Command so that there is protection,” he explained.

Ribera indicated that the MAS is not seeking the presidency of the Parliamentary Brigade, but “someone from a political force, like we believe, who can be servile to the Movement Towards Socialism from the presidency”.

Precisely, this Monday, the MAS bench justified its absence through a letter, arguing that its political strength The representatives who will occupy the positions on the board have not been agreed upon.
