Mayors of the most important cities in the country will march on Tuesday, June 4, to the National Congress to demand the restitution of subsidies for urban passenger transportation.

From the Municipality of Córdoba they confirmed to cba24n.com.ar that the mayor of the capital, Daniel Passerini, actively participates in the initiative to recover funds for public transportation users in the interior of the country.

The leaders of more than 20 important towns in the interior released a statement this Wednesday in which they expressed the concern that exists in all these jurisdictions about the damage that resolution No. 4/2024 of the Ministry of Transportation of the Nation will cause.

The national regulations established an increase in subsidies for the transportation system of the metropolitan area of Buenos de Aires (Amba), which will receive $148,745,709,159 for the month of May and $160,777,188,169.00 for June 2024.

However, there are no changes in the cuts for the interior of the country, which is why the mayors also alluded to the elimination of the compensation fund for the interior carried out last January as another of the decisions of the president of Javier Milei that negatively impacts in the rest of the country.

“It is imperative to urgently demand a direct contribution to the passenger transport system by buses in favor of the provinces and, thus, address a problem that concerns the entire country through a more federal distribution of national resources,” they indicated. the mayors through a statement that bears the signature of 23 local leaders, including the mayor of Córdoba, Daniel Passerini, and of Rosario, Pablo Javkin.

“It is evident that the elimination of national subsidies in the interior of the country has exacerbated pre-existing conditions, seriously affecting all its localities. This measure has generated notable uncertainty and concern, both in the business environment and in municipal and provincial governments. The absence of these subsidies has driven the urgent need to implement solutions that allow the maintenance of public transportation, through extraordinary municipal and provincial contributions, in addition to increases in the fare, which, in the interior, triples the values of Amba,” he details. the writing.

In another paragraph of the note, the mayors highlighted: “Added to this issue, there is the fact of the increase in the commission that the Nation deducts from the jurisdictions, for the use of the Sube service, an increase from 4% to 7%, without having recorded the expected returns. In summary, the biased commitment of the National State in withdrawing subsidies has created a crisis that requires the adoption of immediate and concrete measures to restore the functionality and sustainability of public transportation in the interior of the country.

“This, added to the lack of clear and effective communication, and the aforementioned measures of subsidizing only part of the national territory -Amba-, has only intensified these difficulties. For this reason, those of us who sign this letter inform that on Tuesday, June 4, we will go to the National Congress to raise the issue before the national legislators.
