The National Board of School Aid and Scholarships began its Healthy Schools program in five establishments in Coyhaique, thanks to the Active Community Competitive Fund and are executed by the Municipal Sports and Recreation Corporation of the commune.

This initiative has been running since 2017, and seeks to promote the autonomy of students in caring for their health and their comprehensive development through recreational, socio-emotional, sports, cultural and environmental initiatives, promoting values ​​of coexistence and respect in educational establishments.

Manuel Vivar, regional director of Junaeb, highlighted the importance of this program. “We are convinced that we are contributing to the comprehensive development process of the students and also having a more complete and comprehensive program offer in each of the establishments where we are present,” he indicated.

Sebastián González, director of SLEP Aysén, highlighted the importance of physical and healthy activity in girls, boys and young people. “These types of activities are very important for the new public education and that the municipality also takes as a responsibility with its community,” he commented.

Activities include recreational sessions during recess, adapted to each school, with educational talks and healthy cooking workshops taught by a nutritionist, and visits to wild areas protected by Conaf.

Carlos Gatica, mayor of Coyhaique, highlighted that as a sports corporation they are in line, like all institutions, to combat childhood obesity. “Improve the health condition of our boys and girls, but also that, in public education, children and adolescents can have an education, and, furthermore, a better life,” he said.
