On the night of Tuesday, June 25, a serious traffic accident shook the route that connects Planeta Rica with Montería, leaving a tragic balance of fatalities and multiple injuries.

The accident, which occurred at kilometer 4 of this road, at the height of the Loma Azul sidewalk, and involved an ambulance from the San Jorge de Ayapel Hospital and an Expreso Brasilia public transportation bus.

The authorities have confirmed the first identities of the fatalities. Among them are Carlos Julio Curielnursing assistant, and Rodney Blanquiceth Romeroambulance driver. Both died in the line of duty, leaving a void in Ayapel’s medical community.

In addition, the death of the driver of the Brasilia bus was reported, identified as Ignacio Vargas, a native of Bogotá.

The accident has left a preliminary number of 13 people injured. Among the injured is rural doctor Luisa Petro, who was traveling in the ambulance at the time of impact. Most of the injured have been transferred to medical centers in Planeta Rica and Montería to receive urgent care.

Traffic authorities and rescue agencies continue at the scene of the accident, carrying out inspection and rescue work. More details about the circumstances of the accident and the identity of the other victims involved are expected to be revealed in the coming hours.
