The events occurred in July 2023 amid protests by public service transporters in Ibagué.

A prosecutor attached to the Public Administration Unit of the Tolima Section charged Andrés Camilo Yate Bermeo for his alleged responsibility in the crime of violence against a public servant.

He is being prosecuted because he apparently ran over four uniformed National Police officers assigned to the Mobile Anti-Riot Squad (Esmad) with a bus in Ibagué (Tolima), on July 25, 2023.

The attack against the uniformed officers occurred when they were carrying out their containment duties, in the midst of protests by public service transporters that were taking place that day.

When the three patrol officers and a deputy mayor of Esmad intervened to clear Pedro Tafur Avenue, in front of a hypermarket in the city, the defendant allegedly ran over them.

As a result, the uniformed officers suffered multiple injuries to their bodies and one of them suffered mild head trauma after his helmet broke due to the impact of the vehicle.
