The Risk Management Office in the municipality of Aracataca has begun an exhaustive census to identify the homes affected by the flood that took place on Thursday, May 30 in the afternoon. This initiative is carried out to evaluate the impact of the first intense rains of the La Niña phenomenon in this area of ​​the department.

Aura Solano Ibarra, coordinator of the Aracataca Risk Management Office, together with the liaison from the Umata office, visited the neighborhoods and areas most affected by the floods. During their tour, they were able to confirm the magnitude of the natural disaster.

According to engineer Solano Ibarra, more than eight neighborhoods were affected by the heavy rains and the overflowing of the Tolima Canal, also known as the acequia. Among the most affected neighborhoods are Ciudadela Macondo, 7 de Abril, La Yuquera, Cataquita, Camellón, 20 de Julio, 7 de Agosto, Barrio Centro and El Carmen.

The Risk Management Committee has called a meeting where a detailed analysis of the damage will begin. This analysis will be crucial to establish aid for the residents of this municipality.

The authorities continue to work hard to mitigate the effects of this calamity and provide support to affected families. The community is on alert and recovery efforts are expected to begin as soon as possible.
