Last Thursday, an Irrigated Agriculture Day was held at the Civic Center of Córdoba Capital, aimed at the technical and political staff of the provincial organizations with jurisdiction in the administration of water resources; and to authorities, professionals and technicians linked to entities in the agrobioindustrial chain, universities and other academic fields.

The initiative promotes the dissemination of knowledge to expand the possibilities of agrobioproduction in Córdoba by providing it with irrigation instruments.

In these sessions, they emphasized the role that alternative energies have in irrigation systems and the need to increase the recycling of urban effluents and liquids for productive purposes (reuse water).

The opening of the meeting was led by the Ministers of Economy and Public Management, Guillermo Acosta; of Bioagroindustry, Sergio Busso and of Infrastructure and Public Services, Fabián López. In addition, the Federal Investment Council (CFI) and Banco Córdoba presented strategic financing lines for the sector; and technicians from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) presented the study carried out on the potential of expanding irrigation in Córdoba.

“The productive sector is key because of what it generates in terms of exports and the productive chains from the primary sector. In that sense, it is key to evaluate how, based on the irrigation variable, the productivity of the Córdoba countryside can be increased,” highlighted the Minister of Economy and Public Management, Guillermo Acosta.

Busso added that “in Córdoba, with 7.5 million hectares dedicated to agriculture, we have many possibilities to grow sustainably, taking care of natural resources and improving the quantity and quality of our production, hand in hand with irrigation.”

And he detailed: “We are advancing and managing to improve the productive profile of Córdoba. We insist on the need to eliminate withholdings to transfer these resources, for example, to this type of investment. We had proposed to triple the surface area with irrigation and I believe we can achieve it sustainably.”
