Prosecutor’s Office changes prosecutor who will be on trial against Uribe

The new prosecutor in the case is Marlenne Orjuela, who will take over as the first prosecutor delegate to the Supreme Court of Justice. She replaces Gilberto Villarreal Pava, a prosecutor who formally accused former President Álvaro Uribe of alleged bribery and witness tampering.

Orjuela has been in the Prosecutor’s Office for more than 10 years and was a judge of the Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Bogotá. Villarreal leaves the case because she was in charge and not property.

Fact. On May 27, after being accused, former President Uribe challenged prosecutor Villarreal. According to the former president, “there are objective circumstances that seriously call into question his impartiality” due to his closeness to Eduardo Montealegre and Jorge Perdomo, who were accredited as victims of the process against them.

What is the process against Uribe about? On May 24, the Prosecutor’s Office formally accused him and with that the trial against the former president began. Now comes the preparatory hearing and then the discovery of the evidence.
