A broad program of actions articulated with citizen participation as a premise, in these months of June and July will greet the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the experience of the Local Bodies of Popular Power in the province of Matanzas.

At the José White Concert Hall in this city, a press conference was held regarding the design of the communication plan that plans to strengthen the public’s knowledge of the history of Popular Power, increase information about the functioning of these bodies. and recognize its founders and representatives.

Cultural and sports initiatives in the communities, transformations in the neighborhoods, exchanges with delegates, visits to museums and historical places, photographic exhibitions and the cancellation of a postage stamp, stand out among the initiatives of the territory to be expanded throughout the nation.

Miriam Brito Sarroca, president of the Commission for Attention to Local Bodies of People’s Power of the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP), highlighted the significance of the proposal as a direct exercise with the people and that will demonstrate the work of Matanzas and all of Cuba.

He highlighted that currently the fully public accountability processes of the delegates, and the representation, collaboration and unity in the community work that was initially based in the western province, continue as genuine bases of the work of these bodies.

Marieta Poey Zamora, governor of the territory, recalled the imprint of Fidel Castro, historical leader of the Revolution, who always trusted in Popular Power, and insisted on the importance of citizen participation in each decisive action.

Five decades after workers, peasants, women and students of voting age went to the polls and exercised their right to secret, direct and free voting to elect their delegates of Popular Power, today, true to its origins, the principle remains that “ The power of the people, that is power.”
