The department of Córdoba faces an alarming increase in dengue cases during the year 2024, according to reports María Inés Buelvas, leading doctor for epidemiological surveillance of the dengue program of the Departmental Health Secretariat.
The figures revealed indicate an increase in 46% compared to the same period last yearwhich has led the health authorities to declare an epidemiological outbreak situation.
Until epidemiological week 24, a total of 2,237 cases of dengue have been reported to the Public Health Surveillance System (SIVIGILA) in the department. This significant increase has set off alarms among health officials, who have intensified prevention and control measures throughout the territory of Córdoba.
Dr. Buelvas highlighted that the departmental incidence stands at 119 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, with several municipalities exceeding this figure. Among the most affected localities are Hunting, Valencia, Tierralta, Montelíbano, Puerto Libertador, Lorica and San Andrés de Sotavento, among others.
Dr. Carlos Usta Vellojín, coordinator of the vector-borne diseases program of the Ministry of Health of Córdoba, He called on the population to adopt preventive measures in their homes.
“We need the community to be actively involved in eliminating mosquito breeding sites. “Washing tanks every 8 days and eliminating containers that can accumulate water are fundamental actions,” express.
The Departmental Health Secretariat announced the implementation of a comprehensive action plan that includes fumigation days in high-risk areas, educational campaigns in school institutions and the distribution of information material on dengue prevention.
The authorities call on the population to, in the presence of symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, eye pain, muscle and joint pain, go immediately to health centers and avoid self-medication.
