According to media from the South American country, the number of Cubans in the Uruguayan city of Canelones has grown exponentially in recent years, hence the Municipality of Canelones, through the Transversal Area of ​​Human Mobility, together with the Municipality of Ciudad de la Costa , they gave facilities to the Cuban Consulate in Montevideo to move.

They detail that the government in Canelones is giving priorities to the itinerant consulates of Cuba and Argentina and bringing their services and procedures closer to the citizens and residents of those nations in the area. All this due to their exponential growth in the area.

Yamila Herrera Marcos, Cuban consul in Uruguay, highlighted the success of the first Cuban itinerant consulate in the department of Canelones.

According to her, this initiative aimed to bring consular services closer to Cuban citizens residing in the area, making it easier for them to carry out essential procedures such as passport renewal, document legalization and others. This happened on May 31, but will be repeated at a later date.

In this regard, the Coordinator of the Transversal Area on Human Mobility of the Municipality, Jorge Muiño, pointed out the relevance for Cubans in Uruguay of this itinerant consulate because it saves them time and costs in carrying out procedures, and also avoids the need to travel to Montevideo, the Uruguayan capital.

The number of Cubans in Uruguay continues to grow, making this one of the countries where most people emigrate from the island. Even at the end of May, a new route was opened, through the Uruguayan Post Office, for sending remittances to Cuba, in Uruguayan pesos.
