The municipality of Santa Rosa de Osos declared this Wednesday the public calamity after being besieged by several emergencies resulting from the recent wave of rain that has been presented in the department of Antioquia.

As explained by the mayor Luis Bernardo Molina Grandathe situation began on the night of last Monday, June 3, when the municipality suffered heavy rainfall that They lasted between six and seven hours.

“Experts tell us that they fell approximately five liters of water per square meter“said the local leader.

The most serious damage occurred in the heart of the urban area, in the vicinity of the Los Chorros neighborhood.

After a census that has been carried out since last Tuesday, the most updated figures showed at least 18 homes damagedmany of them with their roofs and walls completely destroyed.

In the case of these houses, inhabited by approximately 22 people, The local government indicated that they were placed in emergency accommodation in a hotel, whose expenses and food are being provisionally covered by the Mayor’s Office.

For now, the schedule indicates that after a study is carried out on those 18 homes, it will be decided this Thursday whether the families can return or must permanently evacuate their homes to protect their lives while they are repaired.

In the vicinity of El Palo Street, one of the main roads in Santa Rosa, Molina pointed out that there is also another 12-story building at riskafter a landslide occurred.

The most affected roads are one that connects the paths El Hato – Santa Bárbara – La Mina, the road between Santa Rosa – Las Brisas Malambo – Playa Larga, and the road that leads to the Cucurucho area.
