(ADN).- “We find ourselves in a distressing situation, with empty pots in the dining rooms, while the State prioritizes criminal complaints over dialogue and concrete solutions.” This was expressed by Andrea López, a member of the Union of Workers of the Popular Economy (UTEP) of Río Negro, who denounced that the Provincial Government “did not fulfill its commitment.”

The social leader, along with other leaders, held a meeting with the Minister of Human Development, Juan Pablo Muena, who assured them that the Government would carry out a direct survey in the socio-community spaces to identify families in need. “However, instead of receiving assistance, social leaders were notified of criminal complaints for their participation in protests,” they indicated from the UTEP.

The organization warned that their “fight affects the interests of large companies, which could be behind the persecution” they face.

López also mentioned that the Government “promised assistance without intermediaries, but so far they have not received any official response regarding the implementation of this aid. Instead, the leaders received notifications of complaints related to the roadblocks, which they consider a strategy of stigmatization and criminalization of social protest,” he noted.

UTEP and its representatives urged the provincial government to “fulfill its commitments” and “cease criminal complaints against those who fight for the right to food and decent living conditions.”

“We will continue fighting, without fear, because it is fair and necessary,” López concluded.
