After completing its group of 28 players, the Colombian team traveled this Wednesday from Barranquilla to Washington DC (United States). This Saturday the tricolor will play a friendly in Landover—a neighboring town of the American capital—against the local team, as part of its preparation for the Copa América 2024.

This continental competition will be the most important tournament of the year for the national team. It officially starts on June 20 and the tricolor will debut on the 24th of the same month against Paraguay. It will be the first title dispute with the Argentine Néstor Lorenzo at the head of the coffee team.

The tricolor will play two friendly matches before starting its journey in the Copa América. In addition to the one that will take place in Landover (Maryland), on June 8, against the United States team, Colombia will clash in East Hartford (Connecticut) against Bolivia on June 15.

Key days for the Colombian national team

Each team participating in the 2024 Copa América can register a maximum of 26 players. In the case of those led by Néstor Lorenzo, there is expectation to know who will be the two players who will not be summoned to the continental tournament. The Colombian coach referred to this in a press conference before traveling.

“Everyone is fine, they know that the final list for the Copa América has not yet been defined, precisely that same day that we played against Bolivia we must give the list of 26 and in case of any eventuality we are going to wait until the last minute,” said the strategist.

Colombia comes to this contest as one of the teams called to be protagonists. Since Lorenzo took over the reins of the national team, he has never lost and in the South American qualifiers he has had an outstanding performance, occupying third place.

To make a great performance in the United States, the tricolor trusts in the talent of players like Luis Díaz (Liverpool) and Jhon Arias (Fluminense), who have a great presence with their clubs, as well as James Rodríguez, who despite not having continuity with São Paulo has had good performances dressed in yellow, blue and red.
