Guantanamo – The Guantanamo University (UG) received the Certified categoryafter an exhaustive analysis of the National Accreditation Board (JAN)which took into account the comprehensive results of that center that on January 23 of next year will celebrate its 45th anniversary.
Reynaldo Velázquez Saldivas, Vice Minister of Higher Education, highlighted that achieving this higher category leads to excellence as the next step, advancement, because a high stage of this university is evident, compared to other institutions of its type in the country.
This categorization system is ours and takes into account regional and international experience, said the vice-president of the sector, who confirmed that Cuban higher education has prestige in the world and specified that the province of Guantánamo has a good place within the educational system.
The National Accreditation Board evaluated the Guantanamo House of Science and Progress through verification of knowledge, the breadth of the master’s program, teaching results, the quality of the educational process, teaching preparation and university extension.
The experts also verified the quality in the training of comprehensive professionals, possessors of a high humanistic culture and their profession, capable of mastering reality and transforming it, committed to the country and socialism, one of the main objectives of the University of Guantanamo .
The work of the FEU and the University Extension projects and their presence in tasks of sociocultural impact in the verification of internal control in the province and the insertion of 310 students in the University College, students as teachers in primary and secondary education, were praised. and pre-university.
The Guantánamo University group is committed to lines of cultural research and social development, business and public management, as well as sustainable food production processes, improvement of the Cuban educational system, and environmental management and control, thereby It achieves the participation of 148 national and 41 international agreements.

Since its founding, the institution has graduated 56,353 professionals, men and women in charge of transforming the socio-economic panorama of this eastern territory.
It also has 27 awards from CITMA, 2 from ANIR and also 6 scientific journals of high national and international impact.
Currently, its enrollment is 12,992 students studying 35 careers, with a high level of its Faculty, of which 74.3 percent are doctors, master’s degrees, specialists and full professors, assistants and consultants.
During the ceremony of awarding the Certificate Category to the UG, a group of institutions, faculties, organizations, departments and workers of the center were also recognized for contributing quality to this accreditation process.
