The recent floods in the municipality of San Jacinto del Cauca, Bolívar, have left 1,103 families, around 4,600 people, affected. In addition, approximately 4,600 hectares of territory are under water, affecting eight villages and a complete district with its respective villages.

According to Mayor Oney Hernández, the situation has forced residents to leave their homes and seek refuge in temporary shelters. ““Really, having the families housed in cambuche again is quite a difficult situation for us,” declared the local president.

The waters of the Cauca River have caused the loss of crops and the displacement of livestock in the region. Residents who had returned to their plots and territories after previous floods have been forced to leave again due to the current emergency.

Mayor Hernández has highlighted the seriousness of the situation and the impact it has had on the local population. The loss of homes, means of subsistence and the need to shelter in precarious conditions have generated a humanitarian crisis in the municipality.

“Every night it rains, every day there is rain, the river levels are quite high, the water from the Caregato stream continues to enter”said Hernandez.

Local authorities are working to provide assistance to those affected and seek long-term solutions to mitigate the impact of the floods. However, the mayor assures that the magnitude of the emergency requires the intervention and support of government entities to address the needs of the affected population.
