The three union centers held an event this Thursday to denounce the attacks on labor rights by the Argentine Government before the ILO. Active solidarity from the International Trade Union Confederation and the Americas, global federations and more than 30 organizations around the world.

Within the framework of the 112th International Labor Conference, which takes place every year in Geneva, Switzerland, the three Argentine trade union centers (CTA-Autónoma, CGT and CTA-T) received strong support from unions, confederations and global federations for the plan. of struggle they carry out against the far-right government of Javier Milei.

To a full room, with the presence of hundreds of delegates, the three centers exposed the terrible consequences of the adjustment policies, attacks on labor rights and persecutions against trade union organizations promoted by the Milei administration.

The forcefulness of international support is made explicit by the presence of Luc Triangle, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), which represents 220 million workers in 163 countries, and Rafael Freire, general secretary of the Trade Union Confederation of the Americas ( CSA), which affiliates 55 million workers from 21 countries in the region.

The event “Democracy in Latin America, current cases”, which took place at the International Labor Organization Building, explains the relevance of the Argentine case in the face of the unprecedented attack against labor and union rights. It was headed by the secretaries of International Relations of the three centers, Adolfo Aguirre, for the CTA-Autónoma, Gerardo Martínez for the CGT and Roberto Baradel for the CTA-T and the general secretaries also took the floor: Hugo Godoy (CTA -A) and Héctor Daer (CGT) and the union secretary of the CTA-T, Claudio Marín. Also leaders of other international organizations. In a packed room he resounded with the chant “The Homeland is not for sale.”

“Our people today feel this encouragement as fundamental support for a battle we are fighting that is very difficult, very hard. “If we confront Milei’s government it is not only because it is multiplying poverty and hunger, which implies not only setbacks in economic and social terms, but because this is accompanied by government measures that advance a de facto constitutional reform,” said Hugo Godoy.

And the leader added: “The anti-constitutional reforms promoted by Milei violate social and labor rights, sovereignty, democracy and the National Constitution, attempting to convert a republican government into a despotic one that governs by decree. That is why we say that the Argentine people have the right to rebel to defend democracy, their rights and their organizations.”

Likewise, Adolfo Aguirre denounced that “the Milei government in six months has demonstrated all its cruelty with a multidimensional attack against the industry, against the state, against sovereignty, paralyzing public works, paralyzing the delivery of five million kilos of food , in a country with 18% indigence.”

And he concluded that “Milei intends to take us to a 19th century scheme in which the masters give crumbs and the vassals receive. That is why Milei has the trade union organizations as an enemy and that is why we are in a permanent state of alert and mobilization in defense of the people.”
