Grupo Argos Foundation will plant 100,000 seedlings in Atlántico, Bolívar and Sucre

As part of the commemoration of World Oceans Daythe Grupo Argos Foundation announced the planting of 100,000 additional seedlings this year in the Ciénaga de Mallorquín in the AtlanticBarú in Bolívar and, Bocacerrada and Rincón del Mar in Sucre.

The above, to give continuity to its purpose of contributing to the conservation and restoration of the ecosystems strategic in Colombia.

During the last five years, the Grupo Argos Foundation assures that it has led a massive program of planting mangrove seedlings in the aforementioned departments.

To date there are more than 850,000 seedlings that have been planted voluntarily and that have allowed the restoration of more than 70 hectares of mangroves, a vital ecosystem for the health of the oceans and the protection of marine biodiversity.

“At the Grupo Argos Foundation we are moved by the purpose of caring for water from its source in the high mountains to its mouth in the sea, which is why we work hand in hand with coastal communities to understand their relationship with the sea and propose programs and initiatives. “that allow us to conserve the marine ecosystem and improve their quality of life”he stated Maria Camila Villegasexecutive director of the Grupo Argos Foundation.

Between 2020 and 2024, the Foundation assures that it has made investments of more than COP 2,992 million in the restoration and conservation of the mangrove ecosystem in the Colombian Caribbeana process in which it has also developed two community nurseries in Atlántico and Bolívar, which currently generate 234 jobs in coastal communities, which have found in caring for the environment an opportunity for growth and economic development.

Additionally, in 2023 the Foundation made an alliance with Agenda del Mar to promote cultural activities around the care of coral reefs in the Corales del Rosario National Natural Park and San Bernardo and contribute to their care through days of locating and marking colonies, assisted fertilization and education and awareness for the care of marine ecosystems.
