Celso Díaz, director of the entity, explained that in the valley about 38 hectares of transgenic corn and about 14 of soybeans are planted, as well as other short-cycle crops essential to meet the population’s demand.

Here, he said, more than 500 hectares are kept protected under irrigation, with the use of Central Pivot machines (fregat) and new systems received through international collaboration.

The deputy prime minister praised the work strategies of the group committed to complying with the national strategy and the needs of the population, and was also interested in the use of organic fertilizers, alternatives to the current resource limitations.

According to the program, in the afternoon you will take a tour of the municipality of Sancti Spíritus, where the largest dam in the country is located, La Zaza, currently with few water reserves.
