During this Sunday, the 2024 Primary Elections will be held in the country. Chileans will go to the voting centers to elect candidates for governors and mayors in the next municipal elections, which will be held on October 27.

Voting will only take place in the regions of Coquimbo and Aysén to choose candidates for governor. The candidates for mayor will be defined only in 60 communes of the national territory.

Failure to vote

Voting in the 2024 Primary Elections is voluntary. Therefore, those who do not attend the polling places, having the possibility of voting because the commune or region is part of the election process, will not receive sanctions or fines.

However, the case of mese vowels is very different. They have a legal obligation to appear at the voting centers to collaborate with the civic event.

If they do not appear, in addition to risking the sanctions indicated by law, which may be a fine of between 2 to 8 UTM ($131,000 to $524,000 approximately), your tables might not be set up. This would prevent the right to vote for hundreds of people in the 2024 Primary Elections.
