The Presidential Delegation of the Metropolitan Region has decreed environmental alert in Santiago for this Saturday due to persistent poor ventilation conditions in the city basin. This measure has been adopted after a week marked by episodes of poor air quality and the declaration of the second environmental pre-emergency this Friday.
The decision was made following the recommendation of the Regional Ministerial Secretariat (Seremi) of the Environment, which highlighted the high concentration of contaminants and continued poor ventilation conditions in the zone.

During this Friday, the monitoring stations of Cerro Navia, Pudahuel, El Bosque, Cerrillos, Parque O’Higgins and Talagante recorded environmental alert levels. The other stations of the Monitoring Network of the Ministry of the Environment They remained at “good” and “fair” levels.
The Chilean Meteorological Directorate (DMC) predicts the approach of a frontal system for this Saturday, with no probability of coastal ventilation towards the basin, which could aggravate current conditions.
Since it is the weekend, there will be no vehicle restrictions. However, the authorities have reinforced the call to citizens to comply with the permanent measures established during critical episodes of pollution. These measures include:
- Prohibition of lighting wood heaters and wood-based heatersa measure that will be supervised by the Seremi de Salud de la RM, the municipalities and the Carabineros.
- Ban on agricultural burningwhich will be supervised by the Seremi de Agricultura together with the teams of the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and the National Forestry Corporation (Conaf).
These measures seek protect the health of the population and reduce the concentration of pollutants in the airin a joint effort to improve air quality in Santiago during this period of environmental alert.
