Opinion column by Víctor Castillo

These days, it is impossible not to be infected by the excitement that exists in every corner of the city. In the streets, at work and in homes, there is an air of unmatched optimism. Atlético Bucaramanga, a symbol of pride and unity for the region, is getting closer to getting its first star.

An illusion that revives memories from a few decades ago. On the one hand, that December 1997 when the leopard team played its only final and, two months before, in October, we inaugurated the HIC Cardiovascular Institute, a hospital dedicated to heart care for the people of Santander and Colombia, which today also fills us with pride and satisfaction.

Two events intertwined in time, which remind us of the efforts and sacrifices made by both the team and the hospital, who have had to live through moments of great challenges, but who have always moved forward, achieving each of their purposes.

Today, the country’s eyes are on the Ciudad Bonita, because after 27 years the possibility of making history in Colombian professional soccer is two dates and 180 minutes away. It truly is a moment of unity, where differences dissipate and a connection is felt that goes beyond just sport.

Good for the city! In the midst of the challenges we are experiencing as a country, it is comforting to observe how citizens find reasons to smile, reviving the spirit of solidarity so crucial in difficult times. As in sport, regaining confidence and hope emerges as a valuable option to work towards a more promising future.

Let this be the opportunity to thank Professor Dudamel and the brave team of leopards for making the hearts of the people of Santander beat and giving us the opportunity to dream again. We send you the best energy so that today and next Saturday every step you take on the court is marked by the determination and perseverance that characterize those of us who live in this thriving land. It’s time to write a new story for Bucaramanga. Let’s go for that first star!

Addendum: In this time of memories and great news, today we celebrate that the HIC Instituto Cardiovascular is consolidating itself as the leading IPS in heart transplants in Colombia, with 31 procedures in 2023 that represent the lives that we managed to save and that also recognizes the work of a team multidisciplinary that dedicates its efforts daily to providing second opportunities.
