For this first democratic exercise, there are seven candidates who will be searching for the first administrative political job in municipality number 31 of Chocó.

This Sunday, June 9, the first democratic process will be held in the Nuevo Belén de Bajirá municipality, in the department of Chocó and where the population will choose its first president, in addition to 13 councilors.

The new territorial entity, located in the north of the department, has a population of 31,700 inhabitants and of which 8,972 are able to exercise their constitutional right, as stated by Jorge Mena, electoral coordinator, by the National Registry of Civil Status. “that 11 voting stations would be installed, one in the municipal seat and 10 in the townships.”

The governor of Chocó, Nubia Carolina Córdoba Cury, has expressed: “We are ready for the meeting with democracy. We already have coordination with the Urabá Police, which has jurisdiction over Belén de Bajirá, and we have formed committees of electoral monitoring where our public force has participated, to guarantee absolute normality in the territory in coordination with the authorities.”

These local authority elections will be held in Nuevo Bajirá, after the Chocó assembly through ordinance number 180 of June 27, 2023, which had been supported through a referendum.
