Logroño, (EFE).- The president of the Parliament of La Rioja, Marta Fernández, has had words of remembrance and tribute for all the mayors of the community and for the young people who leave this land, in her proclamation of La Rioja Day .

Fernández gave his speech in Santa Coloma, in the Plaza de la Convention, where the meeting of mayors is remembered that 2012 years ago, in this same place, was the precursor of Riojan autonomy.

The intense rain has forced the installation of a tent to protect all those invited to this event, including the main authorities of the Rioja community, which celebrates its Day tomorrow, and several mayors.

She herself recalled that this monumental square was created “to remember and pay homage” to the people who gathered in this place 212 years ago “to reclaim our own character as a region.”

“It was not the first nor the last time in which our representatives raised their voices to claim to be a province with its own identity, because the municipal servants were, are and will be a key piece in the success of our community,” stated Fernández, to who “being mayor or councilor is the greatest sign of generosity, love for your people and vocation for service.”

For this reason, he has demanded “recognition and tribute” for the “great work” of the municipal councilors, who carry out “a task that implies closeness and commitment above any other consideration” and make “the noble profession of politics reach its maximum.” expression”.

“Municipal representatives are a heritage that contribute incalculable value to our land,” stated the President of Parliament, who expressed her “encouragement and gratitude” for the mayors and councilors to continue “with such an admirable task.”

Ambassadors of La Rioja

He also recalled how that meeting led to the creation of the province of Logroño in 2022, which was later included in Old Castile in 1933.

“Since then, our people have followed a long path of effort and sacrifice that bore fruit in 1982 with the birth of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja,” highlighted the president, who stressed that “no one doubts our autonomy anymore and no one questions our capacity for self-government.”

He has vindicated the role that La Rioja plays in Spain and also that of “the Riojans in the diaspora” as ambassadors of this land, both those who left decades ago in search of a better future and the hundreds of young people who leave every year. to other lands to undertake an academic or professional project.
