How many deputies does each country elect?

In 2024, 720 members of the European Parliament will be elected, 15 more than in the previous elections. The number of MEPs elected by each EU country is agreed before each election and is based on the principle of ‘decreasing proportionality’, according to which each MEP from a large country represents more people than an MEP from a small country. The minimum number of MEPs per country is six and the maximum is 96. Spain elects 61.

23 members are necessary to constitute a political group and in each group at least a quarter of the Member States must be represented. In addition, deputies are prohibited from belonging to more than one political group.
