Two bodies found in Puerto San José

The Rescue Brigade of the Southern Region of the Volunteer Firefighters has reported on the location of two bodies of the three young people who were reported missing in Puerto San José, Escuintla. The young people were swept away by the waves during a alfaque near the Laberinto neighborhood last Friday, June 7.

The three men, originally from Tecpán, Chimaltenango, were swimming on the beaches of Puerto San José when the incident occurred. Since then, a search operation was deployed that included the support of local fishermen with their boats, who collaborated in the tours and dives in the area.

On Sunday at 6:00 a.m., rescue specialists known as “frogmen” began the search work, managing to locate the body of one of the young people on the beach between El Paredón and Sipacate, Escuintla. The first body rescued was that of a minor, identified by his brother Byron Alexander Saquic.

Later, at 11:00 a.m., rescuers reported finding a second body. However, so far, the second person located has not been identified. The search continues to find the third missing young man.

The authorities continue to work hard on the rescue and hope to provide answers to the families affected by this tragedy.
